Snowflake is a customer-hosted data plane that runs entirely inside your Snowflake account. Narrative's Native App installs from the Snowflake Marketplace and operates as a data plane operator — polling the Narrative control plane for jobs and executing NQL against your Snowflake compute. Your data stays within your Snowflake security perimeter at all times.
Because the control plane and data plane are decoupled, Narrative coordinates queries, permissions, and collaboration metadata without ever holding your data. Datasets are registered from Snowflake tables and views, queries compile to native Snowflake SQL, and AI features run on Snowflake Cortex — including OpenAI's GPT-4.1 and o4-mini.
Workloads scale through compute pools: each Snowflake warehouse you register with the app becomes a separate compute pool, so you can size compute per workload and keep different teams isolated. The app uses a pull-based architecture — no inbound network access into your account is ever required.
The Narrative data plane installs as a Snowflake Native App directly from the Snowflake Marketplace — there is no install flow inside Narrative to walk through.
Once the app is installed in your Snowflake account, Narrative picks it up automatically: the data plane appears in your account and is ready to register datasets, run NQL, and serve Cortex-hosted models.
